Sustainable Films

Bloomer Plastics Inc.'s degradable films offer eco friendly alternatives for many industries. It is a degradable plastic as defined in ASTM 1991: Bloomer Plastics' Film is ..."a degradable plastic in which the degradation results from the action of naturally occurring microorganisms such as bacteria, fungi, and algae."

The degradability of products using Bloomer Plastics custom film process has been demonstrated using the following industry standards:

  • ASTM D5338.98 "Standard Test Method for Determining Aerobic Biodegradation of Plastic Materials under Controlled Composting Conditions"
  • ISO 14855 method "Evaluation of the Ultimate Aerobic Biodegradability and Disintegration of Plastics under Controlled Composting Conditions"
  • ASTM 5511 "Standard Test Method for Determining Anaerobic Biodegradation of Plastic Materials Under High-Solids Anaerobic Digestion Conditions".

A published Ecological Assessment is available for inspection to assure our customers of Bloomer Plastics' commitment to quality and customer satisfaction.

Degradable products from Bloomer Plastics are available as:

  • Homopolymer polypropylene (hPP) - a stiff, high heat resistant polymer
  • Impact co- polymer polypropylene for freezer and microwave applications (thermoforming)
  • Co-polymer polypropylene for softer applications
  • HDPE
  • LDPE/LLDPE blends
  • Custom specialty blends of many polyethylenes

Bloomer Plastics' Sustainable Films maintain the strength, clarity, and printability of our standard PE and PP blends. These films can be highly flexible, have good gas barrier properties, are easily thermoformable, and can be used in a wide range of packaging and other applications including:

  • FDA approved food packaging
    • Overwrap
    • Thermoformed containers
      • Microwaveable
      • Freezeable
  • Tray film
  • Other packaging applications
  • Plastic bags
  • Mulch film
  • Vinyl replacement films

BPI's degradable plastics meet standard polyolefin specifications, shelf lives, and are recyclable. They are a superior alternative to starch, corn based, and PLA films.

We can engineer degradable products for your specific film application.
